From garage business to leading european wholesaler
In 2012 Behr Angelsport celebrates it's 35th aniversary.
It was back in the summer of 1977 when Manfred Behr began his business in his garage, producing handmade polysterene floats for use by his match fishing team. Within a very short time it was also supplying these floats to local shops and significantly to keen anglers in England. In return the team was able to buy keepnets, landing nets and groundbait.
Behr Angelsport was founded by Manfred Behr former member of the german international fishing team and several times german champion in match fishing. After his active career and with his international experience he concentrated on the growth of his company and on the developement of new products for all kinds of fishing.
Slowly the company built up its portfolio, set up factories overseas for its production as European manufacturing costs rose and began distributing more and more items.
Intriguinly it doesn't sell rods and reels but it does currently offer more than 8000 different items of terminal tackle and clothing.
Many items carry Behr's own brand names including ICEBEHR for winter clothing, BEHRsports for leisure clothing, EUROLITE chemical lights, TRENDEX lures and spinners, EUROBITE electronic bite indicators,
RedCarp for carp fishing, YASHIDA and MARACAY hooks, TRENDplus fishing lines and saltwater brand SEABEHR.
Large retailers and wholesalers can also benefit from Behr's private-branding service that offers a wide range of items, notably fishing bags, luggage, rod holdalls, chemical lights and boots along with waders all of which can be custom-made in small quantities.
In 1995 and in 2007 Behr Angelsport built a new warehouse offering plenty of storage and office space and its distribution department handles domestic and export orders.
Behr's 23 staff includes many who are fluent in English, Italian, French or Russian.
In 1999 it opened its first Chinese office in Guangdong in the south of the country.
The chinese employees are responsible for the quality control and the shipping and handling of all Behr products which are now supplied by other regions in China.
In addition to quality fishing tackle for the domestic market Behr's factories also produce custom-made items for its export customers since each country requires different products.
Behr is present at all the major fishing and sporting goods exhibitions such as Chinafish, EFTTEX, ISPO and ANSPO.
